Referring to anti-Maoist remarks made by US Ambassador James Moriarty recently, the Maoist leader Prachanda said the US was 'trying to disrupt the peace process' right since the 12-point understanding reached between the Maoists and the SPA last November.
"US envoy Moriarty has been trying to provoke the situation, which I have taken seriously," Prachanda said in an interview with Nepal Television's Bahas program aired Saturday, Kantipur report said.
Partially agreeing with a recent United Nations report about nine killings by the Maoists after announcing the ceasefire in April, he said all of them were not killed by the rebels.
"We are ready to admit the mistakes."
He, however, said an unnamed NA colonel in Kapilvastu was responsible for distributing arms and money to a group of vigilantes, who later killed seven Maoists.
Prachanda said the rebels do not want to boost the morale of the NA patrolling in the streets (counter to the 25-point Code of Conduct) by 'completely' abiding by the code.
"We are primarily committed to the code? We don't want to boost their (army's) morale by religiously observing it."
The rebel chief used the Nepal TV forum to correct his earlier harsh remarks against the Nepali Army (NA). "If there is confusion over my wrong choice of words, I want to take back those words through this interview," he said.
Speaking during a press conference at the official residence of the prime minister on June 16, which was carried live by the state-owned TV channel, Prachanda had said the NA had nothing to do other than 'murdering Nepali people and raping Nepali women'.
"My comment was not meant to blame the entire army," he said.
"Most army personnel are children of ordinary people who are also democratic. But there are a few generals who have ill-intention against the people and democracy. My comment was about them, not all NA men in general," he concluded.
