BAE Systems Awarded $10.8 Million Contract to Conduct Home Station Reset on Critical U.S. Army Combat Systems

28 Jun 2006 | Ref. 162/2006

YORK, Pa. -- BAE Systems has received a $10.8 million contract to reset key U.S. Army combat systems at various military installations throughout the U.S. from the Army’s Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command Life Cycle Management Command.

The contract covers the Home Station Reset of Bradley Combat Systems vehicles, the M113A3 family of vehicles, M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzers and M992A2 Field Artillery Ammunition Supply Vehicles.

“BAE Systems is pleased to support the U.S. Army in returning these critical vehicle systems to a combat ready status,” said Raj Rajagopal, BAE Systems’ vice president and general manager for Ground Systems. “Under Home Station Reset, BAE Systems personnel work on a variety of military bases and facilities to provide a cost-effective and practical solution to quickly return these vehicles to soldiers.“

If all hours are executed, the contract could be worth up to $62.4 million. Work on this initial effort will begin immediately and continue through December 2007.

Bradley Combat Systems vehicles continue to provide outstanding survivability, mobility and lethality to U.S. soldiers in all types of close-combat urban scenarios and in open-combat open-terrain scenarios over three completed rotations. The Bradley fulfills five critical mission roles -infantry, cavalry, fire support, battle command and engineer squad - for the Army's Heavy Brigade Combat Teams.

The M113A3 is the largest family of armored tracked vehicles in the world, including more than 80,000 vehicles worldwide and more than 40 variants. As one of the most widely used combat vehicles in the world, the M113 family of vehicles plays a role in the militaries of at least 44 countries. BAE Systems has been providing survivability enhancements with ongoing improvements in power-train technology, armor developments, soldier protection and suspension enhancements.

The M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzer provides an important advance in performance, responsiveness and survivability versus earlier M109s. The advanced capabilities of the Paladin were critical during the initial combat phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing critical fire support to commanders. The M992A2 Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicle is the firing-position partner for the M109A6 Paladin and other M109 series self-propelled howitzers and provides timely, efficient, armor-protected ammunition delivery to cannon artillery systems during both firing and non-firing conditions.
