MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- Cmdr. Mary Jackson assumed command of USS McFaul (DDG 74), relieving Cmdr. Sean Connors during a change of command ceremony aboard the guided-missile destroyer June 21.
“I am honored to be joining these Sailors and look forward to continuing the proud service they have established under Cmdr. Connors,” said Jackson. “McFaul’s crew is an impressive and enthusiastic team who are already exceeding every expectation.”
Jackson, a native of Wimberley, Texas, is a 1988 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. She previously served aboard USS Willamette (AO 180), USS Briscoe (DD 977) and USS Vella Gulf (CG 72). Her last sea tour was on USS Stout (DDG 55) as the Executive Officer. She most recently served as flag secretary for Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.
Connors, who assumed command of McFaul in September 2004, leaves the ship to take over as the reactor officer aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) in November.
McFaul is assigned to the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group as part of a routine six-month deployment and is operating in the Persian Gulf conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO).
MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the North Arabian Gulf and protect Iraq’s sea-based infrastructure to help provide the Iraqi people the opportunity for self-determination.
