USS ENTERPRISE, At Sea (NNS) -- USS Enterprise (CVN 65), a Norfolk-based nuclear-powered aircraft carrier currently conducting maritime security operations (MSO) in the Persian Gulf, hosted a special delegation of high-ranking Pakistani military officers, June 16.

Pakistani Navy Rear Adm. Shahid Iqbal, commander, Combined Task Force (CTF) 150, was among those who toured Enterprise and observed flight operations.

The party also met with Commander, Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, Rear Adm. Ray Spicer, and toured Big E's navigation bridge, flight deck control tower and hangar bay.

Enterprise Commanding Officer Capt. Larry Rice said the visit was part of U.S. efforts to engage with partner nations to achieve common goals, including MSO in the region.

MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.

“We’re facing a common enemy - an enemy of peace and security," said Rice. “Our Pakistani allies are an important part of our commitment to stability and cooperation against that enemy, and conducting MSO denies our enemies use of the waters for attack or transport."

“Having Rear Adm. Iqbal and his team aboard is an excellent way to share information and build rapport,” added Rice.
