US, Iraqi Troops Move to Isolate Insurgents in Ramadi
18 June 2006
U.S. and Iraqi forces are moving to isolate insurgents in the volatile city of Ramadi.
Military officials say they are setting up checkpoints in and around the city to prevent the insurgents from getting supplies and re-inforcements.
The operation in Ramadi comes as U.S. and Iraqi forces continued an intense search for two missing American soldiers who witnesses say were captured by insurgents south of Baghdad.
The two where last seen when their team was attacked Friday at a checkpoint in Yusufiyah. One other American soldier was killed in the attack. The military says troops are using all available means to find the soldiers.
In other developments, Iraqi police say gunmen seized 10 workers from a bakery in a predominantly Shi'ite Baghdad neighborhood Sunday. And police found at least nine bodies that showed signs of torture in the capital.
