Thales demonstrates Combat Net Radio Integration in Combined Endeavor
12 June 2006
This presentation concentrated on the Thales solution for a modern tactical deployable network Di@ne IP and included a life demonstration of combat network radios integration.
Di@ne IP is based on commercial available IP technology, which is complemented by military equipments and dedicated software packages. During operation, this network provides to users the well-known commercial services (voice, data, web, etc.) as well as specific military services like user location, priority, pre-emption etc. Using the open architecture and modular structure of Di@ne IP, a tactical network can be easily configured to any mission. In this context Di@ne IP supports all mobility requirements of today's military missions and it is open for integration of legacy equipments and migration of existing networks to IP technology.
As a major component of Di@ne IP, the Thales microwave radio relay system "TRC 4000" provides the appropriate transmission capacity - up to 34 Mbit/s - and guaranties the required reliability for military operations thanks to his anti jamming capabilities. As interface to the mobile part of tactical networks Thales has developed a specific Combat Net Radio Integration (CNRI) gateway. This CNRI gateway allows seamless integration of all kind of VHF/UHF/HF combat net radios by using the IP protocol. Thales demonstrated this integration in voice and data modes during Combined Endeavor.
To show the capabilities of the heterogeneous radio integration, Thales used two different radios at the same time, the German SEM 93 and the French PR4G F@stnet, both radios in operation by armed forces. This configuration presents also a solution to overcome interoperability issues between tactical radios networks in multinational missions.
With the performed presentation and demonstration Thales has again addressed the actual needs of armed forces. In particular the demonstration showed an interoperability solution for forces which are engaged in multinational NATO/UN missions.
