Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Friday said that Pakistan has taken a number of steps to stop illegal infiltration on Pak-Afghan border.
To increase communication level between the two countries, it has been decided that Foreign Secretaries of the two countries should meet once every three months, the Prime Minister told a media delegation from Afghanistan.
Azi said that security forces of the two sides need to have a continuous link to avoid any communication gap.
"The events in Afghanistan have a spill over effect on Pakistan and we will continue our support for peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan to maintain regional stability," he said, according to a statement issued from the Prime Minister House.
The Prime Minister said that some elements have been working to create tension and misunderstanding between the two countries.
"These forces want to destabilise Afghanistan. They are also using the media to create misunderstandings between the two countries." He said the Afghan government and people should be aware of this and watch and counter such forces collectively with Pakistan.
The media can play an effective role in promoting peace and friendship between the two countries, the Prime Minister said.
Talking of trade relations between the two countries, the Prime Minister noted with satisfaction that the volume of trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan has risen to $ 1.5 Billion in a matter of few years.
This, he said, is just a beginning as a vast scope for its expansion exists which lies untapped and needs to be leveraged to the mutual benefit of the two countries.
Answering a question about the energy sector developments, the Prime Minister said Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project is on track and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan gas pipeline project is also being perused.
