PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- Capt. Katherine L. Gregory relieved Capt. Michael Blount as commander, 30th Naval Construction Regiment in a ceremony here May 19.
The 30th NCR provides command and control of four naval mobile construction battalions, an underwater construction team and a construction battalion maintenance unit assigned to the Pacific Fleet area of operations, a force of nearly 3,500 Seabees.
She took the reins of the Pacific Fleet Seabees shortly after 9 a.m. in an outdoor ceremony, after relieving Blount, who had commanded the Seabees since April 2004.
Gregory reports to the 30th NCR after serving for a year as a Department of Defense Corporate Fellow with the Southern Company in Atlanta.
Blount will report to Public Works Center Jacksonville, Fla., as commander, Naval Facilities Southeast.
Over the past two years, the 30th NCR Seabees have been involved in the global war on terrorism, completing a yearlong integrated deployment to Iraq; several international exercises; and virtually every major natural disaster around the globe.
“The world and our nation have never needed the talents and skills that Seabees provide more,” said Gregory, “and I believe we are very, very fortunate to be serving in the [Naval Construction Force] at this time.”
