WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Ship Design, Integration and Engineering Office rolled out a Navy Science and Engineering (NSE) Web site May 11.

The NSE Web site is a tool that can provide immediate assistance in solving technical issues within the Navy's engineering communities. It contains Navy science and engineering information and solutions to technical problems.

“The goal of the NSE Web site is to support the Navy’s Enterprise Construct and to enhance ship readiness and Sailor performance by increasing Navy's effectiveness and efficiency in solving engineering problems," said Gregg Hagedorn, executive director, NAVSEA’s Ships Design Integration and Engineering Directorate.

The NSE Web site targets both a military and civilian user base from various Navy engineering communities. The NSE Web site will be hosted at NAVSEA, managed by NAVSEA engineers, and connected by hyperlink to/from the Navy Knowledge Online Sea Warrior Portal and the Navy Distance Support Portal.

There are three main methods employed by the NSE Web site to accomplish these goals.

The first method connects users to Navy ship related engineering knowledge records of lessons learned and facts/phenomenon that have been posted to the NSE website. The second connects users to points of contact within the ETASN, which consists of technical experts in all NSE functional areas. The third provides users with hyperlinks to other sites that contain NSE type knowledge, albeit different in form and purpose, depending on the focus of the other site.

There is also an "unclassified only" NSE knowledge base on the NSE Web site where users can contribute their knowledge and experience, allowing all Navy engineering team members to benefit from each other.

Potential users with a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate can go to the NSE Web site at https://maintenance.navsea.navy.mil/NSE/ to make application. Upon approval of your application, future access to the NSE Web site will only require PKI credentials.
