14 Killed in Baghdad Garage Attack
16 May 2006
Iraqi authorities say at least 14 people were killed in an insurgent attack in a Baghdad car garage Tuesday.
Police say insurgents shot five guards before setting off a car bomb. At least 33 other people were wounded. The reason for the attack was not immediately known.
Earlier, Iraqi authorities say at least six civilians were killed and in crossfire between police and insurgents in Baghdad's Dora district.
In another part of Baghdad, a roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier on foot patrol. Two Americans were killed by a similar bomb in Balad Monday.
In Saddam Hussein's trial, meanwhile, defense witnesses testified for three of the former leader's co-defendants who are accused of crimes against humanity for the 1982 massacre of 148 Shi'ites from the village of Dujail.
Saddam did not appear in court Tuesday, but on Monday he refused to enter a plea after hearing formal charges against him.
