Insurgents Ambush Bus, Kill 11 in Northern Iraq
10 May 2006
Iraqi police say insurgents opened fire on a bus near the restive city of Baquba Wednesday, killing at least 11 passengers and wounding three others.
The privately owned bus was carrying employees of a local electronics company.
Tuesday, 17 people were killed and 35 others wounded in a suicide car bomb attack at a market north of Baghdad, in Tal Afar - a city that President Bush cited earlier this year as an example of progress in fighting insurgents.
Elsewhere in Iraq, at least five people were killed Tuesday, including a member of the Iraqi Islamic Party, a major political faction. The bodies of several more victims of a continuing wave of sectarian violence also were found.
Prime Minister-designate Nouri al-Maliki is working to complete formation of his Cabinet in time to seek parliament's approval of a new national unity government later this week.
U.S. officials say a unity government that represents all Iraqi factions is key to stemming bloodshed and averting civil war.
