
Suspected Taleban Shoot Dead Afghan Judge

Afghan officials say four Taleban insurgents have been killed in a fierce clash with police in the volatile south.
The officials say the fighting occurred Wednesday in Helmand province.
In other violence, suspected Taleban gunmen on a motorcycle killed an Afghan judge, while a provincial governor escaped an assassination attempt.
Afghan authorities say provincial deputy judge, Sheikh Mohammed, was fatally shot Tuesday after evening prayers at a mosque in western Farah province.
In eastern Nangarhar province, provincial governor Gul Agha Sherzai escaped an apparent assassination attempt Wednesday when a car bomb went off outside his offices. The blast in the provincial capital, Jalalabad, caused material damage but no casualties.
Violence has intensified in Afghanistan in recent months, as NATO builds up troop numbers in the restive south.
