May 14, 2006 Release Number: 06-05-01CA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOUR MARINES DIE IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – Four Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 died as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Al Anbar Province May 11. The Marines were traveling in a U.S. M1A1 Main Battle Tank when it rolled off a bridge into a canal near Karmah, Iraq. All four Marines on board drowned. “We are a close knit family and this loss affects us all,” said Col. Larry D. Nicholson, commanding officer of Regimental Combat Team 5. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these Marines during this difficult period.” The deaths were not a result of enemy action. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense. The accident is under investigation.
