India-Sri Lanka-LTTE-Talks
India has emphasized that talks between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) must continue in order to resolve the ethnic problem in the island nation.
"We would like to emphasize the importance of continuing the process of dialogue to resolve outstanding issues," Navtej Sarna, spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, told reporters here Friday evening.
Noting that Norway, as the facilitator of talks, was making efforts to ensure early convening of the Geneva talks, Sarna said India sincerely hoped that his efforts would succeed.
LTTE Thursday indefinitely postponed their proposed talks with the Sri Lankan government in Switzerland on saving the troubled truce. No new date has been announced.
The LTTE told Norwegian peace envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer they will not attend the talks rescheduled for April 24 "until a stable and conducive environment is created."
