India's special envoy, Karan Singh on Thursday conveyed New Delhi's readiness to support all efforts towards restoration of multi-party democracy while emphasizing that a lasting solution to the problems of Nepal has to be found by the people of Nepal through a peaceful political process.

Karan Singh told King Gyanendra that there is need for 'genuine' dialogue between Constitutional forces in Nepal for urgent restoration of multi-party democracy as the current situation was a matter of 'deep concern'.

Talking to newsmen in Kathmandu, Singh, accompanied by Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran, said that they made certain suggestions and the ball was in the monarch's court.

Singh spoke to the press subsequent to a two hours meeting with the king at the Narayanhity Palace.

A statement issued by the Indian embassy said they discussed the need for 'genuine dialogue' between the Constitutional forces in Nepal with the objective of urgently restoring multi-party democracy in the country in order to overcome the crisis that Nepal is faced with.

On Wednesday, Singh, who has ancestral links with the Nepalese Royal family, and is the former Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, held a 45-minute meeting with Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala.

He also met former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and general secretary of CPN UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal.
