BAE Systems to Protect Canadian Helicopters
10 Apr 2006 | Ref. 082/2006
NASHUA, New Hampshire -- BAE Systems has received a $10.4 million contract from General Dynamics Canada to provide 31 AN/ALQ-144A(V)5 countermeasure systems, spares, and integrated logistics support for Canadas 28 new CH148 Cyclone maritime helicopters.
General Dynamics Canada is responsible, under an agreement with prime contractor Sikorsky International Operations Inc., for integrating the multi-sensor mission systems into the CH148, which is based on Sikorskys H-92 SUPERHAWK medium-lift helicopter.
BAE Systems ALQ-144A is a lightweight countermeasures set that protects helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft against surface-to-air and air-to-air infrared homing missiles. The new Cyclones will support maritime missions that include surface and subsurface surveillance, personnel recovery (search and rescue), and drug interdiction.
"The infrared aircraft survivability equipment for the Canadian Maritime Helicopter program builds on a foundation established when we provided the ALQ-144 for earlier Canadian helicopter programs," said Bruce Blakeley, BAE Systems program manager. This continues our support by providing the premier omni-directional IR countermeasures systems to protect the Canadian armed forces service members.
More than 6,000 ALQ-144 systems are currently in use throughout the world.
