Japan Defense Agency received first EC225 in VIP configuration for the Japanese Emperor's Royal Flight Service
Marignane, 06 April 2006
Japan Defense Agency (JDA) has received on 29th of March, the first EC225 in VIP configuration for the transport of the Japanese Emperor, Prime Minister and official guests. This is to replace its fleet of the current AS332L which had been acquired 20 years ago. Another two EC225s were signed on 10th of March by JDA to replace AS332L before the G8 summit in Japan in 2008.
First EC225 VIP had departed Marseille on 1st of March on ANT124, and had been delivered to Jamco in Sendai, Japan. The customization work in Japan by Jamco is supposed to be completed towards the end of this summer, and the flight initiation is planned in September 2006.
It was the first time for Eurocopter / EuroHeli to have signed through sole-source tender with JDA. We regard it as an opportunity to forge the firm relationship with JDA. The EC225, the latest twin-engine, mid-range Super Puma helicopter (11 metric ton class) was specially developed for passenger transport missions -in particular for offshore and VIP, but also for public service missions such as Search and Rescue (SAR). Some of the new features on the EC 225 are its new main rotor system, new Turbomeca Makila 2A turbine engines with FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control), a reinforced main gearbox and an integrated display and piloting system.
