Jabouri Peninsula continues to yield weapons, IED materials

JABOURI PENINSULA, Iraq (Army News Service, March 27, 2006) – Task Force Band of Brothers continued to thwart Anti-Iraqi Forces efforts to attack coalition forces and Iraqi Security Forces by discovering a weapons cache in Salah al Din province on the Jabouri Peninsula March 26.

Five AK-47 assault rifles were found, along with two magazines, two 130mm projectiles, one 120mm projectile, 100 pounds of accelerant, Iraqi army uniforms, one bolt-action rifle, four rocket-propelled grenade launchers, eight mortar fuses and 20 blasting caps.

Members of 1-8 Combined Arms Battalion, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Task Force Band of Brothers, along with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army Division, swept the peninsula for seven days to disrupt insurgent activities and collect stores of explosives, weapons and ammunition used by insurgents.

Iraqi Soldiers contributed to the mission by sharing their knowledge of the area and people, officials said.
