NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Senior military and civilian leaders participating in the APEX orientation program had the opportunity to visit USS Eisenhower (CVN 69) March 16.
The APEX program focuses on providing new members of the Senior Executive Service (SES) experience in order to help them obtain a better understanding of leadership and thinking skills in a DoD context, along with providing an overview of the DoD structure and processes critical to its operation.
“This experience gives us a chance to get an actual firsthand look at service members working hard in their everyday environment,” said Sajeel Ahmed, an APEX participant.
“It’s great to see where service members work, live, and use the equipment needed to accomplish the Navy’s overall mission,” said Robert Rodriguez, an APEX participant. “With the Navy advancing further and further every day, it’s important to get an idea of what is actually needed as far as new technology and ideas to ensure mission accomplishment.”
APEX provides new SES members a chance to increase their understanding of key policies, priorities and initiatives in various military environments.
“We take pride in providing APEX members the chance to see the Eisenhower and its crew perform at the highest level possible,” said Lt. Cmdr. Scott Rivera, a flight deck "shooter" and tour guide for the APEX visit. “There’s such a great appreciation of how the public sees the Navy and to get the chance to see their feedback is priceless.”
