Racal Instruments Group officially re-launches as EADS Test & Services UK
* EADS proactively re-shaping its UK business in response to the MoD's recent Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS) white paper
* Now part of the world's largest aerospace and defence test & services provider
London, UK, 14 March 2006
Following its acquisition in 2004, Racal Instruments Group, today announced its official re-launch as EADS Test & Services, the world's largest aerospace and defence test & services provider. With more than 1,000 people worldwide and revenues in excess of 205 million Euros, EADS Test & Services has 18 percent of the world market in test systems for aerospace and defence products as well as regional offices in eight nations and a global support and distribution network.
EADS Test & Services offer a comprehensive portfolio of electronic and optronic test products ranging from analogue test and measurement instrumentation, through automatic digital test systems to complete integrated logistic support solutions, including jet engine test instrumentation suites. The company has also developed sophisticated forward-deployed test and analysis equipment to support armed forces in the field, as well as offering testability analysis, training, test software development and obsolescence management services.
"We have listened carefully to the requirements of the UK government and its focus in the DIS on through life support," said Dr Stefan Zoller, CEO of EADS Defence & Security Systems. "The re-launch of Racal Instruments Group as EADS Test & Services is a clear response to that challenge. More than any other nation, the UK is leading the world in this sector and not only are we demonstrating our commitment to the MoD but we are also positioning ourselves long-term for future domestic and international opportunities in the military and civil markets."
The company has been a leading supplier of test solutions to the UK and international defence and aerospace markets for over 40 years. It has worked closely with the MoD and all major prime contractors to provide cost effective, future-proofed test systems for the through life support of military and avionic equipment. Notable achievements include supplying the automatic test systems for the upgrades of the Stingray torpedo as part of a life extension programme and a recent award for the Assessment Phase contract of the British Army's general purpose mobile support systems, known as the Digital Diagnosis and Repair facility (DDR). In recent months the company has also delivered hand-held test systems to the US DoD for trial and evaluation, as well as licenses for its "NewWave" software for development programmes into the DoD future test platform project.
Doug McGinn, CEO of EADS Test & Services UK commented: "The acquisition by EADS has presented us with a great opportunity to widen our product portfolio and capability in delivering products and services not only in the UK but to the international markets served by EADS. Test and services is a rapidly expanding market and we are world leaders in this business. We are further enhancing our operations and have opened facilities in the Middle East and India in the past year to bring us closer to our international customers and gain a better understanding of their needs."
With revenues of about € 5.6 billion in 2005 and roughly 23,000 employees across ten nations, EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS) forms the defence and security pillar within EADS. As a Large Systems Integrator, it offers integrated systems solutions to the new challenges confronting armed forces and global security. It is active in the areas of manned and unmanned integrated combat and mission air systems, including related training services, and in missile systems, battlefield management systems for all branches, global security solutions, secure networks, defence electronics, sensors and avionics, as well as related services.
EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of € 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000.
