Sri Lankan rebels Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) warned the Rajapakse government that they were ready to resist if a war was "thrust" on them.
LTTE voiced concern over "conflicting" signals coming from the government. The 12-member LTTE delegation, which held talks with Sri Lankan government's representatives in Switzerland last month, returned home saying they were not hopeful of a positive outcome from the discussions, media reports said here today.
The Tigers stayed over in Switzerland and travelled to Norway before returning home while the LTTE's London-based chief negotiator returned to Britain last month itself.
The LTTE said it was concerned about conflicting signals coming from the coalition government in Colombo after the Swiss talks.
The two sides agreed to meet again in Switzerland next month.
LTTE's political wing leader S P Thamilselvan said that Colombo must deliver on a promise to disarm paramilitary groups, especially in the island's restive east.
He did not directly answer when asked if the LTTE would participate at the next round of talks scheduled for 19th April, but said a decision would be taken by their elusive leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.
"We ourselves have no faith in the talks," he said in remarks to local journalists and distributed to reporters here by the LTTE. "How can the people have faith in the process?"
