Nepal-Maoists-Violence
At least 32 people, including Maoists and security personnel, were killed in a fierce gunbattle in western Nepal.
Eighteen bodies of rebels were recovered during a search operation carried out by security forces after Wednesday's clash between Maoists and security forces in Panena village in the Palpa area, about 250 kilometers west of the capital, a PTI report said here today.
Ten soldiers and a policeman were also killed, it said, adding that two civilians who sustained serious injuries in the cross-fire were airlifted to Kathmandu and admitted to the Birendra Military Hospital for treatment.
A Maoist rebel, who was injured, was also admitted to the military hospital for treatment.
The gunbattle took place after five suspected rebels were killed last night when they accidently exploded a homemade bomb in Mangalsen in western Nepal.
Meanwhile, two rebels were killed in a separate operation launched by security forces in Galfai area of Darchua district, the Defence Ministry said.
Those killed in the incident included a platoon commander and a section commander of the Maoist outfit.
A civilian was also killed in a landmine explosion installed by the Maoists in the Ghorahi-Lamahi road section in Dang district.
