The U.S. military says it has released more than 400 male Iraqi detainees during the past several days, after an Iraqi-led review board found no reason to continue to hold them.
In a statement from Baghdad Saturday, the U.S. military says the Combined Review and Release Board so far has examined the cases of about 28,000 detainees, and recommended release about half the time in 14,600 cases.
In the latest violence, police Saturday say an Iraqi police major in Ramadi, west of Baghdad, was killed in a drive-by shooting.
In Baghdad, a spate of roadside bomb blasts killed several people, including a U.S. soldier.
East of the capital, police say one civilian was killed at at least four others were wounded in a roadside blast in Baquba.
In southern Iraq, British military officials said two Macedonian contract workers were kidnapped Thursday near Basra. The Macedonians' employer identifies them as ethnic Albanians.
