Futures Center becomes ARCIC

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Feb. 16, 2006)-- The Futures Center under the Army Training and Doctrine Command is now developing into the Army Capabilities Integration Center or ARCIC.

Secretary of the Army Dr. Francis J. Harvey directed the formation of the ARCIC from the resources of the TRADOC Futures Center under General Order No. 4, effective Feb. 15.

The newly designed ARCIC will develop and integrate the Army’s capability requirements, officials said. They said ARCIC will be the lead Army agency for coordinating how best to integrate warfighting capabilities among all the military services and other agencies.

The Army is moving from the current force to the future force through a modernization program called the Future Combat Systems. FCS aims to provide Soldiers with leading-edge technologies to improve their capabilities to fight the enemy in complex environments.

It will be ARCIC's job to ensure that Future Combat Systems capabilities are fielded as soon as practical across the force, officials said. They said this will pave the way for the formation of Brigade Combat Teams with FCS technologies.

Harvey initially discussed the idea for establishing a center with ARCIC’s responsibilities during an April 5 media roundtable. The ARCIC will be responsible to the secretary of the Army and Army chief of staff.

Lt. Gen. John M. Curran, currently the director of the TRADOC Futures Center, will serve as the ARCIC director.

The ARCIC will be located at Fort Monroe, Va. There will also be a Washington, D.C.-based office for ARCIC missions with the Army Staff, Joint Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense and other agencies.
