RAFAEL Conducts Trials on New Naval Decoys

25 January 2006 -- RAFAEL is conducting evaluation trials of a new naval decoy system concept, based on rotatable launchers and fourth-generation decoys designed to defeat missiles with chaff discrimination algorithms.

The new decoy, WIZARD – Wideband Zapping Anti-Radar Decoy, uses corner reflectors instead of the traditional chaff. Israeli Navy (IN) sources stated that the decoys have been very successful in sea trials.

The current trials will entail firing rockets with WIZARD corner reflectors in a number of scenarios for the evaluation team of the Israeli Navy. The team will confirm the operational effectiveness and parameters of the WIZARD.

Funding will be provided by the Israeli MOD for accelerated qualification and production of these decoys with a goal of initial operational capability by the beginning of 2007.
