
MOWAG to Reconfigure 16 PIRANHA II 8x8 Combat Vehicles for Swiss Army
KREUZLINGEN, Switzerland – On 21 December 2005, the Kreuzlingen-based armored vehicle technology enterprise MOWAG GmbH received an order from “armasuisse,” the procurement agency of the Swiss Army, to reconfigure 16 PIRANHA II 8x8 “Pal Pz 93” armoured personnel carrier (APC) variants to the “Kdo Pz 93+” command vehicle (CV) configuration.
These reconfigured vehicles will be employed to fulfill the new scope of tasks assigned to infantry troops at the company and battalion level. MOWAG, as system integrator, will have the overall responsibility for reconfiguring the vehicles, for equipment integration logistics material. Work will be completed at MOWAG in Kreuzlingen, and delivery of the vehicles will take place during the first half of 2006.
This is an important milestone for MOWAG, as it extends the company’s systems integration capability into the reconfiguration and vehicle upgrade segment of the equipment life cycle. Over the next two years, armasuisse is planning to upgrade additional MOWAG PIRANHA and EAGLE vehicles to anticipate and meet the change in tactical missions and requirements.
