
Rice To Lead U.S. Delegation to London Conference on Afghanistan

Meeting intended to secure international support scheduled to begin January 31
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will head the U.S. delegation to the London Conference on Afghanistan January 31 to February 1, according to a January 19 State Department press notice.
The notice says the conference will provide the international community with the opportunity to pledge its political and financial support to the security, development, governance, human rights and counternarcotics plans of the Afghan government.

NOTICE TO THE PRESS
Secretary of State Rice's Travel to the London Conference on Afghanistan
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will lead the U.S. delegation at the London Conference on Afghanistan hosted by the United Kingdom January 31-February 1, 2006. The Conference will mark the beginning of a new phase in the international community's long-term partnership with Afghanistan.
At the conference, the elected government of Afghanistan will outline its goals for security, development, governance, human rights, and counter-narcotics. The international community will commit politically and financially to supporting these goals.
