ONE U.S. SERVICE MEMBER AND ONE LOCAL NATIONAL KILLLED

Kunar Province, Afghanistan--One U.S. service member and one local national were killed when a Coalition vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan's Kunar Province.

Two U.S. service members were injured. One is receiving medical treatment. The other was treated and released.

The incident occurred at about 3 p.m. local time as Coalition forces were conducting combat patrols in the Asadabad area. The vehicle that was struck by the IED was an up-armored, high-mobility, multipurpose wheeled vehicle.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
