Royal Malaysian Navy selects Thales for MCMV

09 December 2005

Thales has been selected by the Royal Malaysian Navy to modernise two LERICI class minehunters with a new wide band sonar.

2022MkIII. The modernisation will include a new wide band Transmit and Receive Acoustic Array, together with a new stabilisation gear. The equipped hull will remain unchanged, in order to avoid reworks on the seachest.

The dry end of the sonar will be replaced and new displays will be installed. Thales will handle the overall system integration including the interface to other ship equipment like the Mine Hunting Tactical Data System, and the new Navigation equipment like Heading sensor, Echo sounder, Doppler Log and EM Log.

The wide band technology of the TSM 2022MkIII will improve dramatically the mine detection and classification performances of the MCMVs.
