IAI and CAE collaborate to develop new training solutions
Nov 28, 2005
Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) and CAE have entered an agreement to develop a prototype solution for embedded and virtual training.
The two companies made the announcement today at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando. CAE (Booth #1744) and IAI (Booth # 2289) are participating this week in the world's largest exhibition of simulation technology.
The prototype will combine IAI's expertise and technology specific to sensors, avionics, and C4ISR (command, control, communications, computing, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) systems with CAE's expertise in simulation training technologies, such as CAE's STRIVE framework. The integrated solution will be designed for embedded training as well as integrated live and virtual training for both civilian and military use.
Yosef (Yosi) Melamed, General Manager IAI/Lahav Division, said: "Customers and original equipment manufacturers are increasingly looking to embed virtual simulation training capabilities into their platforms. Embedded training using virtual synthetic environments is becoming even more important for training military forces in the network-centric battlefields of today and tomorrow."
CAE and IAI have initiated a definition and prototype phase and are preparing a series of customer demonstrations which, if successful, could lead to a longer term relationship between the two companies. Military customers are already evaluating concept embedded training solutions jointly developed by IAI/CAE for fighter aircraft and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems.
"Embedded training is an important extension to CAE's core business of developing high-fidelity synthetic training solutions," said Adolfo Klassen, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering, CAE. "Our simulation technology can be applied in so many ways beyond a traditional flight simulator, and this cooperation with IAI is a perfect example."
Israel Aircraft Industries is a leader in the aerospace and defense industry and Israel's largest industrial exporter. IAI provides unique and cost-effective technological solutions for a broad spectrum of needs in space, air, land, sea, and homeland defense.
CAE is a leading provider of simulation and modeling technologies as well as integrated training services for commercial and business aviation, and defence customers worldwide. The company has annual revenues of approximately C$1 billion, with operations and training facilities in 17 countries on five continents.
