Incident during engineer project

Multi-National Force-Iraq

ad Diwaniyah -- The morning of Nov. 24, at approximately 11:00 a.m. an unknown explosive ordnance exploded in vicinity of a Multinational Division Central South engineering patrol working place. Three MNDCS Soldiers were slightly wounded and one Iraqi child was killed as a result of the blast.

The incident took place about 3 km from Camp Echo, ad Diwaniyah. The unknown explosive ordnance exploded near the vehicles of an engineering convoy. Unfortunately in close vicinity of the blast were groups of Iraqi children playing. One of them, an Iraqi girl, despite immediate first aide received from an MNDCS medical team, has passed away.

Three Soldiers standing near the cars were slightly wounded. They received immediate first aid and were transported to the Camp Echo medical facility and are in stable condition.

The incident is under investigation by MNDCS Military Police.
