EADS equips the German Air Force with air defence control centres
* SAMOC Surface-to-Air Missile Operations Centre delivers detailed information in real time
* Delivery to be completed by the end of 2006
Ulm/ Bad Sülze, 09 November 2005
EADS Defence and Communications Systems has officially handed over the first Surface-to-Air Missile Operations Centre (SAMOC) to the Federal Office for Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB). With this delivery, EADS is equipping the “FlaRak Geschwader 2 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”, SAM Wing 2 based with the German Air Force at Bad Sülze in Mecklenburg Western Pommerania, with the most up-to-date air defence control centre available on the market, thus setting new standards in this field.
The SAMOC system, which was specially developed for the German Luftwaffe, has already proven its network-centric operations capabilities in numerous demonstrations before representatives of the Luftwaffe and other interested armed forces. Series production began at the beginning of 2004 and is expected to continue until the end of 2006.
SAMOC provides planning, mission and evaluating functions for military operations and, through linking with tactical data systems, can deliver results in real time to various decision-makers. It can also rank data into potential threat categories, while still being able to distinguish between faulty data and high-quality results. In this way, precise data can be provided very quickly, enabling on-the-spot decisions to be made through coordination of all German ground stations and air defence systems, AWACS and partners in the Alliance.
Defence and Communications Systems (DCS), the Systems House of EADS, is an integrated Business Unit of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS).
EADS Defence & Security Systems, with revenues of about € 5,4 billion in 2004 and roughly 23,000 employees across ten nations, forms the defence and security pillar within EADS. It offers integrated systems solutions to the new challenges confronting armed forces and homeland security units. It is active in the areas of military aircraft, missile systems, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems with manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), battlefield management systems, defence electronics, sensors and avionics, and related services.
EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2004, EADS generated revenues of € 31.8 billion and employed a workforce of about 110,000.
