ATK Receives $29 Million Options for Precision Fuze
ATK's Fuze Plays Critical Role in Precision Detonation of Air-dropped Ordnance for U.S. Air Force, Naval and Marine Aircraft *Fuze Production Signifies Successful Consolidation of All Fuze Operations into West Virginia
Nov 1, 2005
Minneapolis, November 1, 2005 – Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has received two modifications to a contract valued at a total of $29 million for additional production of DSU-33C/B precision proximity sensors. The DSU-33C/B detonates precision weapons such as the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and other air-delivered ordnance.
The first option was for U.S. Navy requirements valued at $14.5 million. The second option was for U.S. Air Force requirements also valued at $14.5 million.
DSU-33C/B production will occur at ATK’s manufacturing center of excellence, located at Rocket Center, West Virginia. Production for this contract begins in October 2005, with deliveries scheduled through September 2007.
This will be the first production of the DSU-33C/B in the new electronics assembly and integration facility after the company successfully consolidated all fuze operations into West Virginia. The DSU-33C/B, FMU-139C/B, M782, M74, as well as the recently awarded M-228 practice grenade fuze have all helped to firmly establish ATK as an industry leader in fuze production.
The DSU-33C/B proximity sensor is an all-weather, battery-operated sensor that initiates detonation above the ground, increasing the effectiveness of air-delivered ordnance. The sensor design allows tactical fighter aircraft flown by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and allied forces to deliver ordnance from both low and high altitudes.
