IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 26, 2005

DoD Identifies Navy Casualty

           

            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

 

            Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher W. Thompson, 25, of N. Wilkesboro, N.C., was killed in action on Oct. 21, from an IED explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.

 

            Thompson was assigned to Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 8th Regimental Combat Team, 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Forces Atlantic, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
