BAE Systems receives $29.6 million U.S. Army contract to overhaul recovery vehicles
27 Oct 2005
BAE Systems has received a $29.6 million contract from the U.S. Armys Anniston Depot to purchase long lead material and begin disassembly of 126 M88A1 Recovery Vehicles. The follow-on delivery order to fully fund the overhaul of these combat systems is expected before the end of the year.
In April 2005, BAE Systems won the competitive award for the Combat Vehicle Sustainment Support (CVSS) of the M88A1 Recovery Vehicle, as well as the M109A6 Paladin Self Propelled Howitzer, the M992A2 Field Artillery Ammunition Supply Vehicle, and the M9 Armoured Combat Vehicle M9ACE.
The overhaul of the M88A1 is a new program for our vehicle upgrade facility. We look forward to working with our partner, the Anniston Army Depot, on this vehicle, and the additional vehicles awarded, in order to ensure that these combat systems are in a like new condition when they are delivered to the warfighters, said Max Dodd, BAE Systems CVSS program manager.
The M88A1 is a fully tracked armoured vehicle with a mission to perform battlefield rescue and recovery missions; it can fulfil this mission on all types of terrain and during all weather conditions. Work will be performed at the companys facility in Anniston, Ala.
