U.S. Soldiers catch terrorists planting bombs
Multi-National Force-Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq -- As Task Force Baghdad Soldiers continued to conduct aggressive combat patrols in districts in and around Baghdad Oct. 21, several terrorist attacks were halted before they could be carried out.
The U.S. Soldiers discovered several roadside bombs prior to their detonation. In most cases, an explosive ordnance disposal team was called in to destroy the munitions.
One patrol south of Baghdad found two 130 mm rounds with wires leading from the road to a nearby house. Within minutes, the patrol found a second improvised explosive device. The Soldiers secured the site and discovered an individual hiding in the bushes. He and one other individual were detained.
Later in the day, a patrol operating west of Baghdad spotted and engaged three terror suspects preparing to fire a rocket-propelled grenade. The terrorists dropped the weapon and ran. Task Force Baghdad Soldiers gave chase and caught one of the individuals. During the pursuit, they also found an IED which an EOD team later destroyed.
Another unit conducting combat operations in northwest Baghdad found an IED consisting of two 155 mm rounds buried and wired for remote-controlled detonation. That bomb was then destroyed by EOD.
