Multi-National Force-Iraq
TIKRIT, Iraq – Task Force Liberty Soldiers detained the driver of a suspicious vehicle encountered during a combat patrol in Bayji Oct. 17.
Soldiers encountered the vehicle around 6:50 p.m. near a Coalition forces base.
Soldiers asked the driver to open his trunk and unlock his cell phone keypad. The individual, who had a Syrian visa on his passport, refused.
Task Force Liberty Soldiers called an explosives ordnance disposal team to blow open the trunk, which caused several secondary explosions. The ordnance team investigated the burned vehicle and discovered remnants of an anti-personnel mine in the trunk.
