CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq (NNS) -- Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Stephen T. Johnson II, Marine Expeditionary Force, (MEF) Forward (FWD) presided over the transfer of authority (TOA) between Capt. Michael Blount, 30th Naval Construction Regiment (NCR) and Capt. Paula C. Brown, 30th NCR (FWD) at a brief ceremony Sept. 12.
The TOA marked the half-way point for the regiment’s year long deployment to Iraq. Partnered with 1st NCR, 30th NCR is supporting II MEF (FWD) in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq’s, western-most province.
30th NCR’s year long deployment to Iraq consisted of one group deployed to Iraq in March 2005, while the other ensured continuing construction operations for the Pacific Fleet out of Pearl Harbor. The two groups relieved each other in a phased process over the past month, providing continuous coverage and continuity in both locations.
30th NCR provides command and control for three construction units throughout the Al Anbar Province and serves as the Class IV (construction items) material manager for II MEF (Fwd). During the previous six months, the 30th NCR team completed more than 40 significant projects for II MEF, as well as camp maintenance at FOBs (forward operating bases).
“The Seabees have played a vital and positive role in security and helping us defeat the enemy,” said Johnson. “They built hardened chow halls, repaired roads throughout Iraq, repaired airfields and anticipated projects. They took ideas of what we thought we wanted and made them into quality projects that can be used.”
“You should all be proud of what you have accomplished over the past six months,” Blount said. “The leadership is changing, but the Seabees must continue to produce results for the MEF."
30th Naval Construction (FWD), based out of Pearl Harbor, and Port Hueneme, Calif., will spend the next six months in Iraq providing engineering support for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
