Palestinian, Israeli Leaders to Meet Tuesday
05 October 2005
Jordan's King Abdullah says Palestinian and Israeli leaders will meet Tuesday to revive stalled Middle East peace talks.
A statement from the royal court Wednesday says the meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is in response to the king's efforts to push the peace process forward.
It was not clear where the meeting would take place or if King Abdullah would attend.
The Israeli and Palestinian leaders canceled an October 2 summit, following an escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip.
In other developments, a leading Palestinian newspaper al-Hayam reports that Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia will resign next week after returning from Paris where he has been undergoing medical treatment. There has been no official confirmation of the report.
