Operation Iron Fist: Day 2 Update

Multi-National Force-Iraq

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, AR RAMADI, Iraq – Operation Kabda Bil Hadid (Iron Fist) continued today with a force of approximately 1,000 Marines, Soldiers and Sailors from Regimental Combat Team-2 engaging numerous terrorists in and around Sa’dah, approximately 12 kilometers east of the Syrian border.

In one incident, at approximately 11:45 a.m., seven terrorists were engaged by Marine aircraft West of Sa’dah. Four were killed and three fled into a nearby building with an estimated nine additional fighters. When the terrorists began firing, aviation assets were again called in and the number of casualties are unknown at this time.

At noon, terrorists forcibly entered a building and began firing on Marines. Unable to suppress the fire, Marines fired one round from an M1A1 tank into the building, injuring five civilians. Four were treated for minor injuries by Marines and released and one was evacuated to Baghdad and is reported to be in stable condition.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., a suicide car bomber prematurely detonated his vehicle and one terrorist was killed.

Shortly thereafter near Karabilah, Marines were also engaged by rocket propelled grenades and small-arms fire from a building and returned fire killing eight.

Coalition forces have detained four terrorists.

No Marine casualties have been reported.
