Female Suicide Bomber Hits Iraqi Army Recruits in Tal Afar
28 September 2005
A female suicide bomber has blown herself up outside an Iraqi army recruiting center in northern Iraq, killing at least six would-be recruits and injuring more than 30 others.
The attack Wednesday in Tal Afar, not far from the Syrian border, comes two weeks after a joint Iraqi-U.S. military offensive to rid the area of insurgents. Military officials had said the offensive was a success in rooting out foreign fighters.
South of Tal Afar in Baquba, another suicide bomber slammed an explosives packed car into a crowd at a police checkpoint, killing one person and injuring 13 others.
Elsewhere, the U.S. military reports one American soldier was killed and another injured Wednesday in a roadside bomb blast in southern Iraq (near Safwan).
