EADS equips all operational units of the German Armed Forces with TETRAPOL
* Failsafe and secure radio communications with TETRAPOL standard
* Digital trunked radio system worth € 55 million will be launched by the end of 2007
Ulm/Koblenz, 16 September 2005
EADS will supply the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) with TETRAPOL technology with 30 mobile digital radio systems with 10,000 terminal devices, accessories and a training facility worth about € 55 million by the end of 2007. To this end, EADS and the Federal Office for Information Management and Information Technology of the Bundeswehr concluded the "TETRAPOLBw" procurement contract in mid-September.
With "TETRAPOLBw", for the first time the Bundeswehr will be able to guarantee voice and data communication for all operational units in service, encrypted in a mobile cellular network, for all tactical communication levels.
"With 'TETRAPOLBw', we can further contribute to the transformation of the Bundeswehr and at the same time increase the command and control capability and security of our military personnel in service", said Dr. Stefan Zoller, CEO of EADS Defence & Security Systems Division.
As the system impressively demonstrates during the Armed Forces missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, TETRAPOL distinguishes itself by its high reliability and practical feasibility. It meets the high requirements of functionality, availability/reliability, transmission quality, radio coverage and illumination in difficult terrain. The systems have proven to be successful during missions and as a communication platform for command, control and weapon delivery systems and have performed to the full satisfaction of the troops. TETRAPOL is also used by the allied Armed Forces and by NATO.
As a communication medium, " TETRAPOLBw", in its tried and tested form, plays a major role in helping troops carry out their duties efficiently and reliably during Armed Forces missions.
For EADS, the Business Unit for secure communication networks is of strategic importance. All civil, military and public organizations rely on failsafe and secure mobile radio communication systems in order to coordinate their operations and improve their operational performance. EADS currently has the two most important technologies in the field of digital trunked radio at its disposal and can offer tailor-made solutions which meet the customer's requirements. The company is a global market leader in this sector and has implemented 130 digital radio networks in 56 countries, 30 of which have country-wide coverage.
The Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) Business Unit is the “Systems House” of EADS and is an integrated part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS).
