105MM Light Gun Still In Demand
13 Sep 2005
BAE Systems 105mm Light Gun is now back in production, to meet the requirements of an ASEAN nation and emphasising the importance light artillery systems play in modern military operations. The BAE Systems family of lightweight indirect fire support solutions, including the 105mm Light Gun, will be displayed on the BAE Systems stand at DSEi.
Over 1000 105mm Light Guns are in service with 19 nations worldwide, including the United Kingdom and the United States, providing reliable, accurate and cost effective fire support. The system offers users exceptional mobility, both tactical and strategic, ease of operation, a comprehensive suite of IM (Insensitive Munitions) ammunition and the interoperability necessary to fully integrate within a coalition fire support system.
The 105 Light Gun first saw active service in the Falklands in 1982 and has recently seen service in the Gulf, the Balkans and Africa where front line coalition commanders have consistently praised its speed of reaction, accuracy and all weather capability.
Moreover, the 105 Light Gun recently celebrated 30 years in British Army service and with the enhancements provided by the UK MOD Capability Enhancement Programme, it can now look forward to another 20 years of service. The enhancements include further weight reduction and LINAPS (Laser Inertial Artillery Pointing System) enhancements along with a new family of fully IM compliant ammunition - a world first for Land Systems.
The 105mm light gun remains the only reliable, lightweight, all weather, deployable Indirect fire support system in widespread NATO service.
