BAE Systems Type 45 Combat Management System achieves successful acceptance
13 Sep 2005 | Ref. 193/2005
BAE Systems has successfully completed the formal qualification and acceptance testing of the latest Combat Management System (CMS) software release for the Type 45 Anti-Air Warfare Destroyer.
This software release is the fourth major release over the last two years and as with the three previous releases has been achieved in accordance with the accelerated schedule agreed between the DPA’s Type 45 Integrated Project Team (IPT), BAE Systems Type 45 Prime Contract Office (PCO), BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies. This concludes development of all applications required to support the Principal Anti Air Missile System (PAAMS) interfaces and functionality. It formally qualifies a large proportion (80%) of the software ported from the Type 23 DNA 1 system which forms the core of the Type 45 CMS.
This release will now be available for the PCO to commence combat system integration tests and trials at the Maritime Integration and Support Centre (MISC) located in Portsdown, Technology Park, Portsmouth. It also enables BAE Systems to continue its system integration activities at various facilities including the trials barge which will be used to carry out a series of live firing trials next year.
Norman Osborn, PCO subcontract programme manager for the CMS/DTS said, “This is a highly significant milestone for the Type 45 programme. To have the CMS fully functioning and delivered on time to the quality our customer requires is a major benefit to the programme.”
BAE Systems has also started deliveries of CMS and METOC (Meteorology and Oceanography System) equipment to be installed on the First of Class Type 45 in Scotstoun. These deliveries will be made in the next three months with all basic assemblies ready for installation by the shipbuilder at the end of September.
