RAFAEL Penetrates Europe with its Combat Proven Insensitive Reactive Armor
01 September 2005 -- Following its great success in the US Army on the Bradley FV and AAV7 APCs in Iraq, RAFAEL introduces its Insensitive Reactive Armor to the European market.
At the DSEi show in London this month, Rafael's Reactive Armor will be displayed on the BAE Systems, Land Systems H?gglunds, Combat Vehicle 90. The armor will be offered, as an alternative for combined KE-/CE- protection, on the Combat Vehicle 90 in a number of competitions to several undisclosed European armies.
At its own stand at DSEi, Rafael's Insensitive Reactive Armor will be displayed on a British FV432, together with its RCWS-30 (Remote Controlled Weapon Station) as a possible upgrade solution to increase the lethality and survivability of the existing FV432s in the British Armed Forces.
"We also intend on introducing our Reactive Armor onto the European M113s. The armor is under consideration by the IDF for its M113's and the US Army is showing considerable interest," says Dr. Dan Yaziv, Head of Armor Systems Directorate - Ordnance Division at RAFAEL. The company also claims to have a Reactive Armor solution for the British Warrior vehicle.
RAFAEL's Insensitive Reactive Armor provides all-around (360?) protection against the Shaped Charge (SC) warheads of the RPG-7s, as well as protection against KE and AP projectiles and high-speed artillery and road-side bomb fragments. It uses an innovative LBR (Low Burning Rate) explosive that behaves like inert material during transportation, storage and maintenance, but releases its full energy when hit by a SC warhead such as those in the RPG-7. The US Ministry of Transportation has classified the explosives in RAFAEL's Reactive Armor as an Extremely Insensitive Detonating Substance (EIDS).
