RCWS-30 Successfuly Passes Field Trials in Finland, Israel
RAFAEL's RCWS-30 Successfully Passes Field Trials
25 August 2005 -- The Remote Controlled Weapon Station – RCWS 30mm, produced by RAFAEL Armament Development Authority Ltd. has recently completed a series of successful field tests in Finland and in Israel.
Both series were carried out on actual fighting platforms; in Finland on the Patria AMV and in Israel on the Achzarit APC, and covered different combat scenarios at a variety of ranges.
The RCWS-30 was developed for use on any modern, light-armored, high-mobility fighting vehicle; new or upgraded. Its unique design provides light weight, low silhouette in its folded-down position - compatible with C-130 or A-400 air-transport, generous elevation range (–20° to +60°) - in its extended position, unlimited traverse range
(± n×360°), minimal occupation of the vehicle internal volume. The RCWS-30 remote control capability enables the gunner to assume a safe position anywhere inside the armored vehicle, and allows an optional take-over by the Commander - to designate targets and operate the weapons.
The 30mm station is a member of RAFAEL's RCWS family including the Enforcer (7.62mm) and the 12.7mm weapon stations. The RCWS-30, is also part of a new company-wide approach that provides its customers with a complete upgrade package for combat vehicles that also includes the Trophy active protection system, reactive or passive armor, SADS - Small Arms Fire Detection System and Spike multi-purpose missiles or any other ATGW. The weapon station has been designed for complete integration with existing Battle Management Systems (BMS).
"By analyzing the results of the extensive field trials and by disclosing the 30mm station to our existing RCWS customers - openly receiving feedback on the system - we were able to incorporate several additional features into the mature system, including the essential line-of-site stabilization pod" says Dr. Ehud Netzer, Corporate VP-General Manager- Systems Division.
At the DSEi show in London (13-16 September), The RCWS-30 will be mounted on an FV432 APC at RAFAEL's stand, together with RAFAEL's combat proven reactive armor, as a possible upgrade solution to increase the lethality and survivability of the existing FV432s in the British Armed Forces. The Enforcer 12.7mm RCWS will be on display at the BAE stand, mounted on a Panther FCLV. During the month of October additional field trials will be held in the Czech Republic on the Steyr Pandur II and the Patria AMV 8X8.
RAFAEL designs, develops, manufactures and supplies a wide range of advanced defense systems. These leading edge products include naval, air and ground precision weapons, electro-optic systems, electronic warfare (EW) systems, Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) systems, acoustic defense systems, armored protection and training systems.
