Nepal Maoists kill 41 security personnel

Forty-one security personnel, including a lieutenant, were killed by Maoists following one of the deadliest clashes in northwestern Nepal, PTI quoted sources in the Nepalese Army as saying on Tuesday.

According to the report, the rebels had tortured the lieutenant before murdering him.

Another 40 captured soldiers were lined up and shot dead on their heads by the rebels, the Army reports said adding that bodies of 41 soldiers have so far been discovered by the Army forces.

Over 1,000 armed rebels had attacked the army base in Kalikot district on Sunday. The clash continued till Monday.

In a statement, Maoists' western division commander Prabhakar said 6 rebels died in the clash and 159 security men were also killed and another 50 abducted.

Meanwhile, the Army rejected his claim that 159 soldiers were killed.
