UPDATE: Operation Quick Strike nets weapons caches

Multi-National Force-Iraq

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, AR RAMADI, Iraq – Iraqi Security Force Soldiers and Marines from Regimental Combat Team-2, discovered two weapons caches in caves outside of Haqliniyah during Operation Quick Strike August 6.

These small caves, near the Euphrates River bank, were discovered several hundred meters apart and only large enough to hide a person and a small cache. The first cave was found at 9 a.m. and contained a RPG launcher, medium machine gun, several assault rifles and bomb-making material. The second cave contained 155mm artillery rounds and a propane tank, commonly used for bomb construction.

Currently 24 suspected terrorists are being detained for questioning.

The intent of Operation Quick Strike is to interdict and disrupt terrorists and foreign terrorists' presence in the Haditha, Haqliniyah, and Barwanah areas.

Coalition Forces confirmed through gathered intelligence that terrorists are operating in these cities and surrounding areas.

Civilian services and infrastructure, such as water and power or roads and bridges, are not being disrupted as a result of the operation.

More information on the operation will be released as it becomes available.
