UPDATE: Operation Quick Strike benefits from citizen tip
Multi-National Force-Iraq
CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, AR RAMADI, Iraq – Iraqi Security Force Soldiers and Marines from Regimental Combat Team-2, acting on a tip from a local citizen, destroyed three car bombs while conducting cordon and search operations as part of Operation Quick Strike .
A citizen of Haqliniyah informed Marines that three parked vehicles were laden with explosives and ready to be used as car bombs. After securing the area, tanks shot the vehicles with main gun rounds, destroying all three and setting off secondary explosions.
Marines also discovered two roadside bombs buried alongside the main road south of Haditha. In both instances the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team conducted a controlled detonation of the bombs, a propane tank filled with explosives and two 155mm artillery rounds, preventing any casualties or damage.
The intent of Operation Quick Strike is to interdict and disrupt insurgents and foreign terrorists' presence in the Haditha, Haqliniyah, and Barwanah area. During recent operations, coalition forces confirmed through gathered intelligence that terrorists are operating in these cities and surrounding areas.
Civilian services, such as water and power, are not being disrupted as a result of the operation.
More information on the operation will be released as it becomes available.
