Multi-National Force-Iraq

BAGHDAD , Iraq – A 45-year-old Iraqi male died Aug. 4 at approximately 4 p.m. from multiple organ failure as a result of gunshot injuries sustained while engaging coalition forces.

The terrorist was evacuated to the 86th Combat Support Hospital on July 24 and underwent extensive surgery on his chest, arm and abdomen. He was transferred to the 344th Field Hospital here on July 26 where he developed a serious tissue infection. Despite aggressive antibiotic therapy, the infection spread to the blood and eventually resulted in multi-organ failure and death.

An autopsy is being performed. The remains will be transferred to the family upon its completion. This is standing procedure for all detainees who die while in custody of the Multi-National Force.
